- Best for high-skill players whose runs feature lots of sanity income and few mistakes. A risk pick for new players because the punishment is amplified just as hard.
The high-variance class
Psychologist's perk is all sanity changes doubled — both gains and losses. Eat 5 sanity from Coffee, you actually gain 10. Take a Stalker eye-contact hit, you take double damage. The multiplier is bidirectional.
For 500 Animal Coins, you're not buying a strict upgrade — you're buying a variance amplifier. Whether it's "worth it" depends entirely on your runs' baseline mistake rate.
When it works (and when it implodes)
Psychologist works when:
- Your camera discipline is solid (no accidental Stalker / Mass of Eyes sightings).
- You catch ≥90% of anomalies at intake (few Skinwalker conversions on the floor).
- You stock sanity restoratives (Coffee + Chocolate) consistently.
Psychologist implodes when:
- You're still learning anomaly cues — every miss costs 2x.
- You're running unfamiliar shifts (especially Shift 7+ when Stalker enters rotation).
- You're in public lobbies where teammate misclicks cascade.
Why this isn't a learning class
The standard advice across multiple tier-list sources: don't pick Psychologist until you can already run cleanly without it. The class isn't a teacher; it's a force multiplier. Use it to push score on already-mastered shifts, not to grind through unfamiliar content.
A note on the +10 Intern start
Psychologist doesn't have an Intern-style +10 starting sanity bonus. Your starting sanity is baseline, and the doubling kicks in on changes (income and loss), not the starting value. The implication: the first sanity event of the shift carries disproportionate weight because you don't have an Intern-style buffer to absorb early mistakes.
